The birds have to survive long distances, French hunters, fog, rain, deep valleys, high mountains, and birds of prey. How much harder can it get ??? Leo van Opstal had his whole life the idea of creating his own strain. He had the base formed before he emigrated to Australia. In 1996, he bought a complete round of latebred van der Wegen pigeons from Herman Brinkman Tuk (Mister Teletekst) and he visited Steenbergen, the International Mecca of long-distance flying. There he bought the purebred van de Wegen birds directly from the doorstep of van de Wegen. Together with the very Old Jan Aarden strain of Leo. These parties have amalgamated fuse a new strain, we strike while the iron is hot. Pigeons from iron and steel-plated.
Leo van Opstal and Henk Peters, the owners of the international breeding center: Olympic Pigeon World, at Kraggenburg, shall side by side further develope the strain van Opstal.
In 1998, this family of birds won four first prizes against 3,500 young birds and first prize against 19,700 pigeons and the 8th, 11th, 12th,etc. prizes National Orleans young birds. In 1999, the top on every level. This great birds won five first prizes against 3,500 young birds and one first prize against 25,896 pigeons and the 8th, National Orleans old birds.
